Hypertension
The medical name for high blood pressure is hypertension. There are two kinds, primary and secondary. Lifestyle factors are the main cause of primary hypertension. These include having a high BMI, smoking, drinking too much alcohol or coffee, having high stress levels, or even getting older (over 65s are most at risk). Your background can also play a part. You are more likely to develop hypertension if you are of black African/Caribbean descent, have family members with hypertension, or live in a deprived area.
Secondary hypertension is caused by identifiable medical conditions, such as kidney disease, sleep apnoea, diabetes and others.
High blood pressure symptoms can include shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, nosebleeds and headaches but most people whose blood pressure is too high don’t have any symptoms at all. (source, NHS) Despite this, high blood pressure can lead to strokes, heart attacks, aneurysms, vascular dementia and more.

The Hypnotension ™ programme

Is this something that could help you? These points answer the questions I get asked the most.
- I am an experienced hypnotherapist and a licenced Hypnotension ™ Practitioner but I am not a doctor. A medical professional should diagnose your high blood pressure before you work with me. And check that your doctor has no objection to you working with me. I’m happy to provide information for you to give your GP if you wish.
- If you are taking medication such as statins, you should not stop or reduce them without your doctor’s knowledge and supervision.
- Hypnotension ™ helps with primary or essential hypertension.
- You will need to commit to a minimum of four sessions. People take anywhere between four and ten sessions to see results.
- There will be support tasks to complete between sessions and these are vital to the success of your therapy.
This is a natural and evidence-based way to help you get control of the lifestyle issues that contribute to your high blood pressure. It includes relaxation or meditation, coaching, hypnotherapy, and other approaches to help you make healthier choices, and address relevant lifestyle and emotional factors.

Your Hypnotension therapy
Your Hypnotension ™ therapy will use a proven set of protocols, personalised and adapted to you. These aim to remove the effects that lifestyle factors have on your body and mind. You are gently guided to achieve insight, let go of emotional baggage, and achieve a level of calmness that will surprise you.
As you’ll have read elsewhere on this site, hypnotherapy isn’t a magic wand (I wish it was). I can’t magically make your high blood pressure go away. But by working together, we can improve and perhaps even normalise your blood pressure readings.
